Aggravated Assault
Aggravated assault is a very serious offence, perhaps the most serious of all the assault charges. Being charged with aggravated assault could bring very serious penalties. Section 268 of the Canadian Criminal Code governs aggravated assault.
Section 268 of the Criminal Code of Canada
Aggravated Assault, as per the Criminal Code of Canada includes:
(1) Every one commits an aggravated assault who wounds, maims, disfigures or endangers the life of the complainant.
(2) Everyone who commits an aggravated assault is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding fourteen years
This charge can be on its own or could follow an assault that includes a weapon or with the intention to commit another crime. As you can see, this is one of the most serious forms of assault that can be committed and depends greatly on the level of harm that is suffered by the victim
